Why we chose the theme
We chose the theme of Identity & Oppression because it shows how young people struggle to define who they are when society tries to limit their freedom. This theme allowed us to explore both personal growth and the pressure to silence individuality.
Which chapter inspired us
Our song was inspired by the chapter the Letter from Persepolis, where Marji discovers painful truths that adults try to hide from her. This chapter shows her desire to understand the world even when she is told she is too young or not allowed, which mirrors the idea of youth being silenced.
What message I wanted to communicate
The main message we wanted to communicate is that a voice is powerful and even in times of control or censorship, expression can’t be completely erased, today people carry a light made by the burning lantern that keeps shining after attempts to suppress it.
